Video production billing guide
How to Write a Videography Invoice
A videography invoice works when the client can tell which filming day, edit round, revisions, and final deliverables they are paying for now. Keep the wording direct so the bill feels easy to approve.
Write it in this order
- Start with the filming stage and datesThe client should know which shoot, coverage block, or production phase the invoice covers.
- Name the deliverables clearlyCall out editing rounds, captions, motion graphics, social cutdowns, or final exports in client language.
- Keep extras separate when they changed the totalExtra filming time, revisions, or delivery packages should stay visible when they materially affect price.
- End with simple payment timingKeep the due date and balance due close to the totals block.
Keep these lines concrete
- Write this
- “Filming day and interview capture” or “Editing round with captioned social cutdowns and final exports.”
- Not this
- “Video work” or “content production” without naming the stage or deliverable package.
- If the scope expanded mid-project
- Add the extra filming, edit round, or export package as its own line instead of hiding it inside one blended production fee.
If the choice changes, move early
| Option | Use it when | Do not use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Videography invoice | The invoice is tied to filming, editing, revisions, or final-delivery work. | The bill is broader freelance work or really a photography package. |
| Photography invoice | You need a shoot/session option centered on images and image delivery. | The work now depends on edit rounds, motion assets, or export packages. |
| Freelance invoice | You need a broader solo-service bill without production-stage wording. | The client expects filming or edit-stage detail. |
